OpenWorld (OW) Open Source Collaborative Professional Networking embodies a concept whose time has come.
OW is dedicated to enabling and supporting 100% organic online networking, transparent operation, and collaborative development and management.
OW speaks to those who are weary of having their networking efforts cancelled out by arbitrary algorithmic controls shaped by undisclosed commercial objectives.
OW does not seek to compete with, poach members from, encroach on the core markets of or mirror the specialist niches of any other social media platforms, whether professional or social. OW is, instead, establishing widely-distributed OW Portals/Gateways, enabling passageways for content native to any other platform to be shared and distributed via OW’s own developing broad-based networks, in full compliance with each platform’s content-sharing policies. There’s no need whatsoever to stop using other platforms in order to become an OW (registered*) member or (unregistered*) user of OW services and platforms. Indeed OW members* and users* would undoubtedly benefit from a far richer and more productive overall Social Media experience, by maintaining their use of other platforms in conjunction with OW, just as Google Search and Wikipedia coexist in perfect harmony, each efficiently and effectively leveraging the distinctness of the other.
OW members and users will be able to share posts created on other platforms, on their own blog or websites into OW’s networks, where distribution will be controlled by the personal selections of OW members* and users* in a loose, autonomous confederation of independent blogs, websites and eCommerce operations all indexed for search within the OW ecosystem.
OW is structured as a group of autonomous International Nodes (serving National Nodes), National Nodes (serving National Local Enterprise Centre [LEC] Networks), National LEC Networks (serving LECs) and individual LECs (serving local cities, towns and communities), all directly connected to one another and capable of independent operation as well as delivering user traffic, information and services to one another and to the OW Global Interchange (OWGI) at OW Central (OWC), to access common, network-wide OW resources administered and updated centrally. OW Nodes serve as communications pathways for OW members* and users*, who can interact, connect, liaise, collaborate or contract business with one another across the platform, via OW Networks or via the OWGI.
Each OW LEC is effectively a networking space for authorised private, for-profit providers of appropriate goods and consulting and other expert services and the potential consumers of such goods and services.
Each LEC will, in turn, operate according the linguistic parameters, markets, customs and traditions applicable to its local demographic and mix of business needs, structured in accordance with the specific needs and interests of the markets of its relevant parent National Node Network. Thus, one LEC is likely to differ from another LEC in nature, internal structure and menu of services. However each LEC will be designed to remain accessible and relevant to local OW members* and users* seeking pathways into the OW ecosystem.
Unlike traditional multi-site enterprises, it is the outposts distributed in among OW’s interacting networks of Local, National and Regional Networks of Nodes that will serve to inform, shape and determine the form, function and features offered by OWGI at the centre. In conventional multi-site operations or typical multinational enterprise, the outposts typically feed, serve and are controlled by the centre. Not so, with OW, where OWGI at the centre exists purely and simply to serve and deliver the needs of members* and users* in interacting Local, National and Regional OW Networks.
The OWGI will become home to OW’s Digital Content Distribution (DCD) network. However, OW members* and users* will be under no obligation to publish content on any existing or future native OW publishing platforms. For independent publishers, OW will readily share content created on other platforms via its own network, to OW members* and users*, according to their respective preferences.
OWGI will serve as an aggregator for RSS or similar content feeds, together and distribute notices and links to members* and users*, again, according to the preferences set respectively by each recipient.
In addition, OWGI will also host internationally-accessible industry-specific, industry sector-specific and market segment-specific professional groups, owned and managed by OW members*. OW groups will be equipped with the tools necessary to effectively grow and manage them in respective accordance with each group’s statement of mission and rules.
OWC is a non-profit organisation. It is being developed and launched collaboratively by an international group of dedicated and expert Anchor Stakeholders.
OW will not monetise member data or information, neither by selling, nor by selling access to that data or by selling lead generation services or lists. Since OW’s membership* and userbase* data will never be monetised, there will not be a need to restrict access to the platform, nor to game members* and users* to keep them logged in to the OW platform or plugged into the OW Ecosystem. Therefore, links to external sites and platforms of value to OW members* and users* will be collated and incorporated in OW’s portfolio of services and their use encouraged in, spirit of open platform-to-platform collaboration.
